Joe Burrow

It has become pretty clear that the 23-year-old heisman winning quarterback from death valley will be the number one overall pick this upcoming April.

Roger Goodell will step to the podium in Las Vegas on April 23rd with his draft card that was just submitted by the Cincinnati Bengals. More likely than not, that draft card will have the name of “Joseph Burrow” on it and Burrow will have his draft moment that so many athletes prolong for.

Buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut, should Burrow pull an Eli Manning? Manning — as I’m sure you know — was taken first overall in 2004 by the San Diego Chargers, but he was very passionate on not playing for them, and it worked. It was a plan put forth by his father, Archie Manning, and Eli followed through and was traded to New York.

One thing that Burrow and the Mannings have in common, is their competitiveness. They are winners. Not just Eli either, Peyton was a winner. They want to win.

Burrow has a real chance of being a stud in this league and I believe he will be a stud.

With that being said, being the number one pick and becoming a stud are in his cards yes, but he SHOULD NOT pull a Manning. Yes, the Bengals are a dumpster fire, but he can turn them around and make them a winning franchise. Although the Bengals get a bad rep, let’s take a look at the past decade for them.

“Don’t listen to the narrative”

Joe Burrow is a winner, and will continue his winning ways at the pro-level. Do not taint the start of your career by pulling a move of this magnitude. Instead, don’t listen to the narrative. Take the selection with a smile, and enter the season with a fire. If the Bengals have a big offseason — starting with drafting Burrow– and with the potential of a seven team per conference playoffs, could the Bengals be a dark-horse wildcard team?

Maybe.
