For the past few weeks now, the Panthers made it clear that they were moving on from Cam Newton, whether that be via trade, or release.
This morning, they made it official that they will be releasing the former MVP after failing to find a trade partner.
The Panthers have been very active these past few days as they have made a number of moves.
They signed quarterback Teddy Bridgewater to a three year deal and followed that up by trading quarterback Kyle Allen to Washington where he pairs up with former Panthers coach, Ron Rivera.
Following trading Allen, they signed the first player from the XFL and signed star of that league, quarterback P.J. Walker.
A few hours after making the Newton news official, they signed former Jets receiver, Robby Anderson to a two year deal. A new weapon for their new quarterback, Bridgewater.
The quarterback room is completely new in Carolina — absent of Will Grier — and now Newton will have the option to play wherever he’d like, instead of being traded somewhere.
The Chicago Bears were linked to Newton for awhile, but after making the trade for former Super Bowl MVP, Nick Foles, it looks unlikely for them to go after Newton now.
It is the end of an era for Carolina and Newton as Newton looks to begin a new era elsewhere.
