NFC North
Game 1:
Bart Starr quarterback sneak vs. Orlovsky running out of the endzone.
Winner — Bart Starr sneak.
This play is the sole reason why the Packers moved on to Super Bowl II. They then won that contest and the trophy is named after Lombardi. One of the greatest moments in NFL History gets the easy nod in this matchup.
Game 2:
Fridge TD run in Super Bowl XX vs. Minneapolis Miracle
Winner — Minneapolis Miracle
Great matchup between these two. The Miracle barely squeaks out the victory. Just like Michael’s call in Super Bowl XLIX, Joe Buck’s words of “Diggs! Sideline! Touchdown! Unbelievable! Vikings win it!” will forever be ingrained in my small little brain.
NFC South
Game 1:
Steve Gleason blocked punt vs. Vick running through Minnesota defense.
Winner — Gleason blocked punt.
The Saints had a few moments to choose from, but this one stood out the most. The image of Gleason running free up the middle will never be erased from my mind.
Game 2:
Derrick Brooks pick 6 in Super Bowl XXXVII vs. Steve Smith 69 yard walk-off touchdown.
Winner — Steve Smith 69-yard-touchdown.
It’s hard to choose a non Super Bowl play over a Super Bowl one, but Brooks’ pick 6 occurred well after the game was over. Though a very memorable play, Brooks made the game 41-21, meanwhile, Smith won it, in the first double overtime game in the history of the NFL.
NFC East
Game 1:
David Tyree catch vs. Riggins TD run in Super Bowl XVII.
Winner — Tyree catch.
This one shouldn’t be explained. No disrespect to Riggins and his run, but Tyree’s catch will forever be a top moment in NFL history, no debate in this matchup.
Game 2:
Roger Staubach first ever Hail Mary vs. Philly Special
Winner — Staubach’s first ever Hail Mary.
Another tough one to choose from, but ultimately, the 1975 divisional Hail Mary comes out victorious. Thanks to Staubach, any situation world wide that has a small percentage is now known as a Hail Mary.
NFC West
Game 1:
The Catch vs. Fitzgerald 64-yard-touchdown in Super Bowl XLIII
Winner — The Catch.
Montana’s pass to Dwight Clark in the 1981 NFC Championship Game will forever be a top moment in the history of the league. Easy decision here.
Game 2:
The Tackle vs. Beast Mode.
Winner — The Tackle
To me, this is the second toughest division to choose from, behind the NFC East. Beast Mode would potentially be a top-2 seed in any other division, except this one. They face-off in a tough matchup, and the game winning tackle in Super Bowl XXXIV prevails. The next matchup is very intriguing.
