Re-Doing the Packers draft.

The draft is officially over and now the question sets in, what now?

Well, since I absolutely despised almost every pick the Packers made I’m doing a redraft based on — as Brian Gutenkunst would say — how the draft board fell.

Feeling on the Packers and what they did:

If you are a Packer fan and do not have a problem with that draft, well, nicely put, you don’t know much about football. So let’s reset and see a dream draft that the Packers should have had!

Pick 26 — Traded up the Miami Dolphins, player taken: Jordan Love.

The trade never happens and the Packers are on the clock at 30. For the sake of this, the Dolphins take the corner, Noah Igbinoghene with the 26th selection. Jordan Love is on the board, but I am not taking him, instead I am trading back. I am trading back to the 34th selection with Indianapolis. The terms are: Packers trade pick 30 and receive picks 34 and 85. The Colts take Love with their pick.

Redo — With the 34th pick, they take defensive linemen Ross Blacklock. Blacklock provides immediate help on the interior defense and the big man will bring much needed run stopping ability.

Pick 62 — Originally selected RB, AJ Dillon.

Redo — The Packers also don’t select at 62. Instead of trading up with the Dolphins in the 1st round, they trade up in the 2nd round. The Packers send picks 62 and their fourth round pick to Miami for pick 56. Miami only moves back 6 spots and they can still get Raekwon Davis there. The Packers jump the Vikings, Jets, and Rams to get receiver, Denzel Mims. An all-around great trade.

Pick 85 — Colts selected Julian Blackmon.

Redo — The Packers acquire this pick while the Colts moved up to get the backup quarterback to Phillip Rivers. The Packers now have a few nice prospects to choose from. They decide to take Anfernee Jennings, edge rusher. I was between Jennings and offensive tackle, Lucas Niang, but I actually liked the trio of guys the Packers got in the back end of this draft, they beef up the d-line even more and seem SET. Smith (x2), Gary, Jennings, Blacklock, Clark, Lowry, Keke.

Pick 94 — Originally selected Josiah Deguara, TE

With this perfect world do over the Packers are going to make ANOTHER trade. They have now traded each of their original selections. The Packers trade this pick to either the Cleveland Browns or Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In return, they get a tight end, either David Njoku or O.J. Howard. They make the move to whichever team is most willing to trade.

Pick 136 — Originally traded to Miami to move up to 26.

Redo — This pick is also sent to Miami, but for when they moved up in the 2nd round to snag Mims.

Pick 175 — Originally selected, Kamal Martin, ILB.

Redo — I don’t hate the idea of this pick. The Packers need more linebackers, especially in the middle. I just don’t like Martin. After reading draft reports on Martin there seems to be red flags with his injuries. Scouts also believe he’ll only contribute on special teams. So instead, they take Penn State Nittany Lion, Cameron Brown, linebacker.

Pick 192, 208, + 209 — Originally selected Offensive linemen, Jon Runyan, Jake Hanson, and Simon Stepaniak.

Redo — The reason I paired these picks up and didn’t go pick-by-pick is because I like all of them and am not changing these picks at all. It took them until round 6, but I do like some of the selections the Packers made.

Pick 236 — Orginally selected, Vernon Scott, safety.

Redo — It is the 7th round after all so its tough to be picky about what to do. A lot of these picks are freak athletes and you hope you find one diamond in the rough. I like the idea, but I don’t like the prospect. A scouting report says he should never see the field, so that’s scary. Again, he’s a 7th rounder, so not a lot of expectations, but in this redo, the Pack get someone else. They choose Scott’s teammate, running back Sewo Olonilua.

Pick 242 — Originally selected, Jonathan Garvin, edge.

Redo — I don’t mind the pick, but since we took Jennings in this redo, we focus on another position. We take Scott away, so now no secondary players have come off the board. So with their final selection in the 2020 NFL Draft, the cheeseheads select, cornerback, A.J. Green.

Un-drafted free agent signing — It is unknown right now who they will sign, but I would immediately sign, Thaddeus Moss, TE.

This redo makes me feel a lot better than what the Pack actually did. Unfortunately, this is a fantasy world draft and what the Packers did is not a bad dream. I have to live with what they did, but man, I wish they called me first and I gave them this recipe for winning. They focus on every single need and they get some phenomenal athletes. It would have been one of the best drafts of 2020. Instead, they are on the other side and had one of the worst drafts of 2020.
