NFC Most Memorable Moments — Elite 8

We’ve made it to the Elite 8 in our most memorable moments in NFL History. The teams that have made it to the Elite 8 and have a chance to move on to the final four include:

  1. The Green Bay Packers
  2. The New Orleans Saints
  3. The New York Giants
  4. The San Fransisco 49ers

The moments for these teams are as followed:

  1. Bart Starr Sneak in the Ice Bowl
  2. Steve Gleason blocked punt on MNF following Hurricane Katrina
  3. The David Tyree Helmet Catch
  4. Dwight Clark’s Catch 1981 NFC Championship game.

These are not ranked in order, although each of these moments were the number 1 seed for their conference. All four 1-seeds advanced to the Elite 8, and let’s find out which one is moving on:

Matchup 1:

Bart Starr Sneak vs. Steve Gleason blocked punt.

Winner — Bart Starr Sneak

I know that people are going to deem me bias, but without Starr’s sneak, the Dallas Cowboys advance to the second ever Super Bowl and face off with the Chiefs. The Cowboys would have been favored, who knows if they would have won, but NFL History would be forever changed. If the play never happens; maybe Lombardi doesn’t step down, maybe the trophy isn’t named after him. The ramifications of this play is too big, that’s why it’s the first moment advancing to the Final Four.

Matchup 2:

Winner — The Catch

We have catch vs catch in our second matchup. Maybe two of the greatest catches in NFL History, which is why it was tough to choose from. Dallas is on the wrong side of history once again as Montana somehow found Clark in the back of the end zone. The sole reason this one was chosen over Tyree: it jump started the 49ers dynasty. They went on to win the super bowl this year, and it was one of four that decade.

The NFC Final Four will be a matchup between two great franchises; The Packers and Bart Starr’s sneak vs. The 49ers and Dwight Clark’s catch.
