First and foremost, I don’t watch golf that much, absent of the last hole of the Masters — if it’s even close. Let alone do I not watch, I really don’t even like golf that much. But let’s be honest, the match was awesome.
If you live under a rock and you aren’t sure what the match was, it was a golf match between Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Peyton Manning, and Tom Brady that took place today.
The teams were Tiger Woods and Peyton Manning vs. Phil Mickelson and Tom Brady. My money was on Woods and Manning from the beginning, and I finally got something right. They never trailed throughout the day, but in dramatic fashion, it came down to the final hole.
Woods and Manning won by 1 — in the pouring rain no less — and for the first time ever, I actually enjoyed the sport of golf. The back-and-forth banter between the four was incredible, and throwing in guys like Justin Thomas and Charles Barkley only enhanced an already magical event.
There were many highlights throughout the day like JT calling Barkley a “fat-ass”, Brady draining a shot from DEEP out, Eli Manning tweeting all day long, Brady ripping his pants, and Russell Wilson donating 300,000 meals live as Manning, Brady, and Mickelson put their balls within 12 inches of the par 3 on hole 14. Again, just one word to describe it all: amazing.
Most importantly, they raised a large sum of cash for coronavirus relief efforts. At the end of the day, they raised a total that was about 250 thousand dollars short of $20 million. Turner TV kicked in the final amount to get the amount to a total of $20 million.
The four men decided to split the original donation of $10 million, so without their money, they still raised another $10 million. Just absolutely incredible.
Times are tough in the world right now, but this event that was broadcasted all day today brought some laughs and joy to the world. Hopefully, there is light at the end of the tunnel for these dark and trying times.
