It is currently May 27 and one of the best pass rushers in the NFL still doesn’t have a contract.
Jadeveon Clowney is a former number one overall selection of the Houston Texans, who was then traded to the Seattle Seahawks last season. He was traded by the team that took him #1 overall in 2014 after being franchise tagged and not agreeing on a long-term deal.
Since entering the league, Clowney has put up dominant numbers and last season he helped the Seahawks defense look much better than they really are. Since free agency has started, there has been little news to report on Clowney, but there is some intriguing news that came out today.
NFL insiders haven’t said much on this news, and it seems hard to find if it’s true or not, but this article states that Adam Schefter went on ESPN radio in Cleveland to break this news.
If this is true, I seriously wonder what Clowney is doing. It doesn’t seem the defensive end has gotten any love at all from the market and if he wants his money, he should go play in the dawg pound. I love the move from Cleveland to target the stud pass rusher. Could you imagine Clowney AND Myles Garrett coming at you from both sides?
Maybe Clowney wants a return to Seattle and is still waiting on them to get a deal done, who knows anymore, but if I’m him, why not take the deal. You get everything you could want as a free agent, an insane amount of money, a team with high hopes and potential playoff chances, and the opportunity to live in Cleveland!
Ok, maybe now I understand why he doesn’t want that deal.
